The most exciting part of starting a new project - cutting! Do you have all your fabrics picked? Your blades sharpened? Are you ready to go?
So, how do you usually like to cut for a quilt pattern?
I cut everything before I start the first stich
I''m super organized and label everything - even my labels đ
I cut for each block as I go
It's pure chaos when the blades come out âď¸

In cutting the standard drunkard path pieces, do you use one single paper template to make all the fabric cuts, or you print and prepare a paper template for each fabric cut? As hard as I try to be exact in cutting the curved area with my rotary cutter, I occasionally nick the paper. Iâm worried my last fabric cuts wonât be as exact. Thoughts?
I usually use one template, and those knicks are usally minimal. If you are concerned about cutting, you could make one sturdy cardstock / cardboard template and use it for all of your cutting.
Help. My taped XXL template measures 13.5 x13.5. I printed at 100% and my control block measures exactly one inch. What am I doing wrong?
Absolutely nothing... that is correct! We trim the XXL DP unit later in order to get the 1/4" seam allowance on the L-unit. đ
So, should I just let 1/4 inch of my template overhang on both the top and bottom of the 13â fabric strip to âsplit the differenceâ?
@machelle.watkins That could work. You may have to adjust a bit on the curve unit, but since there is plenty of room for trimming, it should still come out. Sorry about the mistake. I have corrected it now on the pattern, and listed it in the pattern corrections.
I was confused too! My template ended up too big to fit on the 13â length of fabric as shown on the background cutting diagram. Will just use a bigger piece of fabric!
Thank you
Sorry for the confusion. I have corrected the pattern and listed it in the pattern corrections. Since we are trimming the block, you still might be able to make it work.
