I picked fabrics from my stash for the fat quarters , all in the kind of peacock range as it may well end up with my sister who loves peacocks.

The original background was going to be white but, typically, I changed my mind over the weekend and had to go and buy more fabric!

I'm trying to feel sorry for you for having to buy more fabrics, but I just can't 😉🤣

I just LOVED the cool grunge blues of your original, so I went with exactly that.

I'm getting there on my prep, pattern pieces are organised & freezer paper etc all ready, hoping my fabrics arrive next week, I'm probably going blues/aquas similar to original. @pippaspatch on IG

I love color - but I will say I don't think choosing and matching them is my strong point. Although I do think I am slowly learning. Allison has a really great blog post on how she picks colors (link below) and the way she uses 'connecting' fabrics really clicked for me. And hello - the color wheel! Now that I am starting to figure it out - it's really brilliant and is starting to help me when I need to weed colors out.

I am not very confident in choosing colours myself. I have been watching some YouTube videos on colour theory recently...hoping to increase my knowledge. I ordered fabric almost the same as the original...just 2 substituted as not all colours were available. I wasn’t feeling comfortable making my own choices when purchasing online as the colours aren’t always true. The original is gorgeous and am very happy with the package of fabric that has arrived! 😊. I will be learning how to appliqué as I go...a new technique for me. I made a small pressing mat using Allison’s instructions and have the gathered the toools needed...glue, mini iron, tiny scissors, brush. Very excited to begin!

Big ‘hi there‘ to everyone getting ready for the Purdy Bird QAL 👋.

I much prefer choosing my fabrics. Color and pattern are my weakest skill but I just go with what I like and it seems to work out. I will say the blues in Purdy Bird were so perfect I was tempted to copy them exactly. However, I made myself choose other colors, still grunge, as a skill builder. After all, this entire QAL is about skill building, right?
